STEPS 2022 – Schweizer Tanzfestival

Ein Frühling mit Tanz in 33 Schweizer Städten und Gemeinden

Ich freue mich schon sehr auf STEPS. Endlich wieder werden viele moderne Choreografien in der Schweiz vorgestellt. Hier die ersten Informationen.

Das zeitgenössische Migros Kulturprozent Tanzfestival Steps findet vom 28. April bis 22. Mai 2022 in allen Landesteile der Schweiz statt. Neun Compagnien bespielen 36 Bühnen – zum ersten mal auch zwei Hotels. Das Festival wird am 28. April 2022 mit der Uraufführung von «Wonderful World», der ersten Zusammenarbeit der Choreografen Kinsun Chan und Martin Zimmermann, in der Lokremise St. Gallen eröffnet.

Was Ballettfans wissen möchten

Neuerscheinung im November 2021

Wie tanzt man Liebe? Kann man auch ohne Musik Ballett tanzen? Wie wird man Prima Ballerina? Wo sind eigentlich die Choreografinnen? Ist das Ballett heute noch zeitgemäss? Fragen über Fragen über die Geheimnisse des Balletts. Bücher über die Geschichte und die Hintergründe des Balletts gibt es nicht so viele. Umso mehr habe ich mich auf das neue Buch der Tanzwissenschaftlerin Dorothee Gelhard gefreut.

Ein ästhetisch wunderschönes, mit viel Liebe illustriertes Buch, in dem die Künstlerin Camille Deschiens jede Kapitelnummer in zarten Farbbilder versteckte.

SYLVIE GUILLEM – Documentary

Exquisitely expressive and technically perfect

Sylvie Guillem was the greatest prima ballerina of her generation. She was the first ballerina to take her career into her own hands. After 39 years she took her final bow at the age of 50 in 2015.

I was lucky to see her in one of her last performances 6000 MILES AWAY, a work by three of today’s most important contemporary choreographers: Mats Ek, William Forsythe and Jiří Kylián.

Buchreview: Vladimir Klos

Ups and Downs. Mein Leben. ein einziger Tanz!

Zu seinem 75. Geburtstag erschien die Autobiografie des weltweit gefeierten Ballettstars Vladimir Klos, die ich mit Freude gelesen habe. Grosses Glück hatte der tschechische Tänzer als er 1968 nach seiner Flucht in den Westen von John Cranko in das Stuttgarter Balletts aufgenommen wurde. Denn ein Jahr später begann Cranko’s internationaler Erfolg, als er mit dem Stuttgarter Ballett auf USA-Tournee ging. Mit seinen vier Starsolisten Richard Cragun, Birgit Keil, Marcia Haydee und Egon Madsen schrieb Cranko dort Ballettgeschichte, die als „Das Stuttgarter Ballettwunder“ bezeichnet wurde. Vladimir Klos wurde sozusagen das „fünfte Rad am Wagen dieses Dream Teams“.

Unforgettable moments with Nadja Saidakova

Prima ballerina, ballet master, With Staatsballett Berlin and Guest Teacher


I watched all the amazing youtube videos of Nadja Saidakova in June when I worked on preparing my interview with her. So many great ballet moments came up in my mind while remembering this outstanding prima ballerina dancing all the classical and contemporary leading parts with Staatsballett Berlin. As I loved them so much, I want to share them with all of you.

Her presentation was unforgettable as the tough Valkyries Brünnhilde in Maurice Béjart’s „RING UM DEN RING“, the lovely Tatjana in ONEGIN, her breathtaking Pas de Deux  in “ IN THE MIDDLE OF SOMEWHAT ELEVATED“ and her romantic interpretation of a young girl in „LE SPECTRE OF THE ROSE“.
