First of all, congratulations on your nomination as a brilliant Mephisto by Dance Europe!

You have been with the Ballett Zurich for 11 years. What were the most important steps of your career?

The first job which was offered to me after ballet school was a contract with the Junior Ballet in Zurich in 2007. Heinz Spoerli, the ballet director at that time, pushed me quite a lot and gave me some good opportunities and small roles. After 2 years I was offered a position as „Gruppe mit Solo“ in the main company which means being a dancer in the Corps de Ballet of Ballet Zurich with some solo roles. I was very surprised that Heinz Spoerli appreciated me that much.

Why do we need Movement Notation?

Similar to music, dance needs to be written down, but unlike music, dance is a fleeting art. It has taken until the 20th century to find a tool to record dance notations and preserve these choreographies. It was Rudolf Benesh who created a tool for human movement notations in 1955 and defined choreology as „The aesthetic and scientific study of all forms of human movement by movement notation“.

NUSSKNACKER UND MAUSEKÖNIG am Bolschoi Theater

Ballettdirektor Christian Spuck und sein Ballett Zürich können auf ein äusserst erfolgreiches Jahr zurückblicken. Das absolute Highlight 2017 war die Neuproduktion des Nussknackers. Unter dem Titel NUSSKNACKER UND MAUSEKÖNIG revolutionierte Christian Spuck das berühmte Weihnachtsballett radikal. 17 ausverkaufte Vorstellungen wurden am Opernhaus Zürich bejubelt. Auch am renommierten Moskauer Bolschoi Theater löste der neue Nussknacker an zwei ausverkauften Abenden Begeisterungsstürme aus.

Love or Desire?

„Anna Karenina“ as a Ballet by 5 Famous Choreographers

Most people have heard of the movie “Anna Karenina”, starring Keira Knightley as the lead role, directed by Joe Wright and adapted by Tom Stoppard. Based on a novel by Leo Tolstoy, “Anne Karenina” is very popular in the ballet world right now. I have the feeling that every year brings a new interpretation of Tolstoy’s touching drama, all of which are different but all worth watching. Enjoy the trailers!

Die herzliche Primaballerina

Interview mit KATJA WÜNSCHE

Katja Wünsche beeindruckte in diesem Jahr in vielen Rollen. Ihre Vielseitigkeit ist unglaublich. Als MYRTHA in dem Ballettklassiker GISELLE verkörperte sie die unnachgiebige Königin der Willis und brillierte in Technik und Ausdruck. Ihre ANNA KARENINA berührte zutiefst. Katja präsentierte diese tragische Frauenrolle extrem gefühlvoll. Als Frühlingsopfer in SACRE tanzte sie sich buchstäblich „die Seele aus dem Leib“. Ihre komische Seite zeigte sie in SKEW-WHIFF von PAUL LIGHTFOOT & SOL LEON. Im aktuellen Stück MESSA DA REQUIEM verzauberte sie das Publikum durch ihre enorme Präsenz und Ausstrahlungskraft.

Wie kann man Tanz aufschreiben?

Wie funktioniert Tanzschrift?

Die Choreologin Birgit Deharde hat mir während eines Interviews versucht, die Tanzschrift zu erklären. Choreologie ist sehr schwierig zu verstehen und zu erlernen. Es braucht eine lange Ausbildung und viel Erfahrung. Detailtreue, Geduld, Akribie und Vorstellungsvermögen gehören zu diesem Beruf. Ohne professionelle Ballettausbildung fehlen die Grundlagen, denn die Choreologin muss wissen, wie Ballette aufgebaut sind und welche Schrittfolgen getanzt werden.

Was ist Choreologie?
Anders als in der Musik, ist Tanz eine flüchtige Kunst. Erst im 20. Jahrhundert wurden zwei unterschiedliche Tanzschriften zum schriftlichen Aufzeichen von Tänzen erfunden, wobei sich die Benesh Movement Notation durchgesetzt hat. Diese um 1940 erfundene Tanzschrift ermöglicht es, alle vom menschlichen Körper ausführbare Bewegungen festzuhalten. Tanzschrift und Tanznotation meint das gleiche.
