No Stamina In Home Office

Interview with Rainer Krenstetter, principal dancer of the Miami City Ballet, since 2014

Rainer tells us about how to survive as a dancer in times of corona.

You are doing live stream dance classes on Instagram for intermediate and advanced dancers as well as private classes. How do you go about teaching online?

After everything was shut down due to corona, the Miami City Ballet started serving the community through educational and outreach programs throughout Miami, Florida and even worldwide. MBC offers online classes done by their highly ranked dancers. Our outreach program includes ballet basic classes, as well as stretching and strengthening classes for people more interested in Fitness, Yoga or Pilates.

Insights: How do Ballet Dancers start the Day?

The Daily ritual of A morning class

Ballet Zurich shows us at the opening party „everybody dances“ last weekend how all ballet dancers start with exercises in the morning. That is their workout every single day – 6 days a week -to warm up to get ready for a day of rehearsals.

Public Morning training of Ballet Zurich on 21st September 2019

The morning class starts at 10 am and takes 75 minutes. It has 2 parts:
1.Warm up at the barre, exercise and stretch, doing plies, tendus, etc strengthening all parts of the body, getting the flexibility and coordination.

  1. This is a full workout with balancing, turns and jumps.
Great performance demands stamina, strength, flexibility and coordination – and that only comes with incredibly long hours in the studio – day in day out.

This session is led by ballet master Jean-François Boisnon, the live piano accompaniment is by Christophe Barwinek. Dramarurge Michael Küster and Ballet Master Daniel Otevrel are talking about what is going on.

How Ballerinas Customize Their Pointe Shoes

A big Deal for every Ballerina!

As we all know breaking in new shoes is hard work. Pointe shoes must be broken in to reach the perfect state. Many ballerinas destroy their brand new pointe shoes even before dancing in them.

Each ballerina has her own routine how to customize the fit and support her dancing style. Hours were spent on scraping, ripping, crushing, sewing, and burning, only to end up with a shoe that is uniquely tailored to the ballerina.

Wie kann man auf der Spitze tanzen?

Ohne richtige Vorbereitung kein Spitzentanz!
