THE NUTCRACKER is my Xmas Ritual
Watching the Nutcracker on Christmas Day is my holiday tradition since years. Numerous ballet companies around the world offer this famous Christmas ballet now online or on Demand. In times of Covid I can’t see The NUTCRACKER live on stage. There are so many beautiful choreographies available, next to the original by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, done in 1892. My favourite interpretations are by George Balanchine, Peter Wright and Christian Spuck.
So what’s on this year:
The New York City Ballet
Many of you will know the most beautiful version by George Balanchine who created such an awesome setting for the magical land of Sweets in 1954. The chores by Balanchine is still the most popular one in the US. Remember the Spanish dancers as Chocolate, the Arabian dancers as Coffee and of course Mother Ginger!
Available to stream, exclusively on Marquee TV. Enjoy this ubiquitous holiday experience from now until January 3, 2021: marquee.tv/nycbnutcracker.
Marquee.TV is offering a 30 day trial – cancel anytime.
The Royal Ballet London
This well known beloved stunning production by Peter Wright after Lev Ivanov has been enchanting children and adults since 1984. Many of you probably have already seen it: it is just the magic of Christmas with beautiful dancing at its perfection. Splendid dancing at every level!
The Royal Ballet will stream its spectacular production of The Nutcracker Reworked on Tuesday 22 December at 7pm (GMT) priced at £16 per household and available to view on demand for 30 days until 21 January.
This is my favourite Nutcracker today called NUSSKNACKER UND MÄUSEKÖNIG which I will watch tomorrow by DVD.
Christian Spuck’s Nutcracker and Mouseking redirected the focus on to the original literary model by the fairy tale by E.T.A. He tells us the prequel to the Nutcracker – it is like the backstory of the Mice King and Princess Pirlipat, who has been transformed into a nut monster.
Do you remember the Nutcracker in the first act where the Nutcracker is fighting against the Mice King? We don’t know anything about this character. This story of the Mice King and his mother hadn’t been told.
